Hey everybody!
Nicki Seefried here, your new VP. I am just doin' a pre-nationals post to see how everyone is doing, and tell you a little bit about my summer!
A week after we get home from nationals, I head out to the Big Apple to do an Experimental Theatre Intensive program and Tisch School of the Arts at NYU. When I first looked into doing a summer session there, I called my brother Will who did one of the programs and he couldn't speak highly enough of the experience. I'm not sure exactly what to expect, all I know is that it is gonna be scary and amazing and intense. On the Juniors trip to NYC I sat in on an Experimental Theatre class, and it is so bizarre...the classroom looked like an insane asylum. But that's what I love!
It is a one month program where I will be in studio training pretty much all day (10ish-5ish) everyday and living in the NYU dorms. I also am going to get the opportunity to see shows, take courses in which we discuss current theatre and the criticism/praise it receives, and get a college experience. Above all, I get to meet some amazing people; besides the other 15 kids in the Experimental theatre program, I will make connections with NYU professors and students in the other summer programs. The program also counts for four college credits.
The application process is pretty simple. You just log online to the NYU Tisch Summer Programs page http://specialprograms.tisch.nyu.edu/page/hsStudents.html , write an essay about why you feel prepared for an intensive program such as this and a significant artistic/leadership experience, upload a headshot and resume, and some other basic forms, and Badabing Badaboom you're done. Then you're notified in late March!
Here is a list of the programs they offer:
Drama
-New Studio Music Theatre (32 students accepted)
-New Studio Acting (16 students accepted)
- Stone Street Screen Acting (16 students accepted)
-Experimental Theatre (16 students accepted)
Dramatic Writing
Film
Photography
Recorded Music
Pretty cool, huh?
If this sounds interesting to you, please please please talk to me in the fall and tell me whatchur thinkin. DSA students have amazing experience, and incredible teachers who know you well to write your letters of recommendation. There are also scholarship opportunities. If you are interested don't let price and selectiveness discourage you from applying. Email me, facebook me, stop me in the hall, WHATEVS. If you're interested let's sit down and chat about it! I'll have more information and wisdom to impart on you once I've actually been there :)
Please comment on this post and let us know what cool artsy things YOU are doing this summer! I promise we're interested. We will even try to make it to a performance (if there is one) because we want to support you all! Let us know. Happy summer!
