Perhaps this coming school year should be called the year of CHANGE. We all know its coming. There is a lot of change, and, with reason, a lot of fear to accompany it. Lets list some of the changes we can expect:

-Moss has switched departments.

-Brett Scott has moved to the east cost.

-The schedule is changing so beginning, intermediate, and advanced are separate again. This is will in turn, change the curriculum

-As most people now know, we will not be in Moss’ room next year (Moss will keep that room for creative writing). We don’t           know WHERE our new space will be just yet but this leaves the department without a “home base” for now.

-Mr. Becker, our new teacher who most of us know nothing about, will be joining Ms. Hann to lead the department next year.

There it is. All laid out. There is a lot of CHANGE happening this year. A LOT. This change is through no one person’s decision, but rather through many decisions and factors that were best for Moss, Brett, the department and the school. We can either try to fight the change which is inevitable or we can ACCEPT it, and face it. There is reason to be scared about what will come of this new year but there is just as much, if not more, reason to be excited about what this new year brings. This is a chance to rejuvenate our department. From the ground up. This is scary, but if we stand strong, together I know our department will be even better than before.

So what I suggest to everyone is to ACCEPT the change. Allow yourself to know that things will be different next year. Only after you do that can we allow ourselves to move forward. By sitting and complaining about the change we get no where.

So accept that things will be different next year. Go into the year with an open mind. NONE of us know who Mr. Becker is or what his strengths as a theatre teacher truly are. All we can do is TRUST that this change is for the best. TRUST that none of this CHANGE would be happening if it wasn’t going to benefit us, the students, somehow. If we, as a department, ACCEPT what’s to come in the new year and move forward into the change then we will grow as individuals, a department, and leaders of the department.
