Hey All! This is Annie Perales your new Publicist for this year’s school year. I’m here to fill you in on all events happening throughout the year.

It’s only been about a month of summer and already so much has happened. After we were let out of school I immediately hopped on a 13-hour flight to visit my mother in New Zealand. She works there for a few weeks out of the year to oversee the creative execution of the marketing photography and promotional videos of the cast and crew of the show Spartacus. (A lot of mumbo-jumbo yes but still a really cool job). Whilst in Auckland, New Zealand I visited the set of the show and met some of the cast, which was very eye opening to the job possibilities that are involved in the production of a show. It takes just about as many people to produce a television show, as a live stage show, if not more.

Also in Auckland, my family jumped of a building called the Sky Tower- it was about 6o stories. It wasn’t all that scary because it was actually a controlled base jump not bungee. This means that we were attached to a three cables that rapidly lowered you to the ground- it still was quite the rush and definitely worth it.

Next I flew to Hamilton Island off the coast of Australia. It’s an island in the Great Barrier Reef, home to an eclectic amount birds, fish, and sea life. I encountered a kangaroo, koala, and some very colorful birds: including a cockatoo that you could talk too. It was a relaxing experience to have before arriving in the hectic and bustling city of Sydney, Australia.

In Sydney, I took on another high-flying challenge. I climbed the top of the Sydney Harbor Bridge. This time, tethered to only one cable, I felt even more scared but it definitely helped confront my awful fear of heights. In Sydney, an art instillation entitled Vivid Sydney was showing. It was a hodgepodge of light sculptures, and video projections on buildings- including the sails of the Opera House. (http://www.vividsydney.com/) I saw a performance that was described as a psycho opera that was playing at the Opera House for the Vivid Sydney. It was called Stop the Virgens and included many actresses from Sydney and New York. It also starred Karen O from the band the Yeah Yeah Yeahs! This show was unlike anything I had ever seen before and introduced me to a whole new experimental type of performance art.

My trip to New Zealand and Australia was phenomenal and once in a lifetime. It made me excited about the various types of performance oppourtunites that are all around the world.
