Hello Thespians! This is Shawn Cremer, your Freshman Rep. I wanted to update you guys a bit about next year. As you all know, our department is going through a lot of change. Just to name a few, we have a new teacher, Mr. Becker, we will have a new space to work in, we are getting a TON of new students (31% of next year's major is new), we have a new vice principle, and we are going into the 2010-11 school year with a fresh new start. A lot of these changes are scary to many of our major. However, we can also view all of them as exciting.
As many of you know, Mr. Becker has a LOT of experience. He was a musical theatre director for two years, then an all theatre director for three years after that. He has some really great ideas for our major. I'm not just saying this, he really does. The officer board skyped him on Saturday and he is very excited to come. We also need to remember that even though we may be frightened of what one new person might be like, he is jumping into a group of 135 very outspoken, very close theatre majors who he also doesn't know. It is not fair to him if we make preconceptions. I think that if we give him a chance, we are going to be VERY pleasantly surprised!
We are also moving from the upstairs theatre room to a new space. The space is TBD, but whatever it is, it will be MUCH better suited to theatre. It will be bigger, for a start, so we can be really excited about this too. Of course, as our school grows, our major grows too. All of the new students will be a welcome addition to our major, as they always have been. YAY!
As far as our new VP, that, of course is out of our hands, but whoever we get, he/she will be great. Mr. Kohut is NOT going to hire some one who is no good for the school.
The curriculum is going to stay in the same general format, so really, it's going to be possible to handle of of this. I say, accept it with open arms and be happy!! :)
Our mission statement for this year:

"To foster a positive, professional, and healthy environment and help improve our department amidst change while staying accountable, honest, and consistent."

It's gonna be a great year. I'm psyched!
