Hey hey hey! This is Marlo B. (B is short for Berberian) and this is my first official blog post as Thespian President. You may have noticed a few changes to the website, some cool new pictures and a funny/weird/disturbing/awesome/mindblowing/cool video too. Here’s the link in case you didn’t see it J http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Os-CACRwM8

Now that I’ve introduced myself, it’s time to talk about what is happening tomorrow. Tomorrow several members from DSA’s Thespian troupe will be leaving Denver, Colorado, for the Promised Land of Lincoln, Nebraska. We leave at 4AM and will be taking an eight-hour bus ride to get there. (It’s not so bad! We all sleep, watch movies, and eat junk food.)

After we arrive, the crazy rush of Nationals begins. Juniors will sign up for college auditions, several students will perform Individual Events showcasing their talent, and others will simply enjoy learning from the experience. It is an amazing and exhausting week.

I’ll tell you a secret, the weather is CRAZY. It’s practically a million degrees outside-WITH HUMIDITY- and all indoor locations are freezing. It’s a lose, lose situation, but if you layer properly you should be able to survive.

Now, going to nationals can seem a little scary. Not necessarily nerve wracking scary, but in the sense that you never know who or what you will see. Yes, you will have to deal with annoying theatre kids (we all know the type, come on. The one’s who sing Wicked, Hairspray, and Footloose non-stop. It’s okay to admit if you’ve been there before. I have. I'm proud to say that I’m cured.) Despite the possibility of being annoyed, you will also meet some really cool people there. Kids from around the world. Last year, I watched a short 30 minute adaptation of Glee created by kids from the Philippines. All kinds of crazy stuff happens. The outfits are outrageous. The spirits are high. The dances are too crazy for me. And the heat is….well, it’s there.

It really is an amazing week. There are so many opportunities for everyone at Nationals, even if you aren’t planning on performing. By going to workshops students have the ability to learn and network with working professionals. Students have the chance to audition for Thespian Playworks, original shows written by students and performed at the end of the week. Nationals is what you make of it. Make it count.

Thanks for reading can’t wait for Monday,

Marlo B.
