Hey guys!!!
Well it is my first post of the year so I am still trying to get back in to the swing of things. Sooooo.... I dont really quite know what I came on here to say but I will talk anyway. State is coming up! Forms are due on Wednesday!!! This is so exciting :) I am so pumped but so sad about my last thes con. I have been going to THespian Festival since they started doing it for Middle Schoolers. Making this my 6th Thes Con! (Not including Nationals which I have attended 3 times) T...

Hann here...

Posted by Shawn Hann on Monday, September 30, 2013, In : HANN
So today in our officer meeting, the thespian officers begged ME to blog.  :P  Here I am...

I guess closing Beauty and the Beast last night filled me with a desire to reach out to non-theatre majors at DSA and say- go for it!  Step into your fear!  Join thespians! Come to state.  Perform an IE. Or just come and participate in workshops.  The hard part about DSA is that you only get the chance to experience your declared major art form daily- so those of you who love performing, take the chance...

The Edinburgh Fringe Festival

Posted by Mitchell Lippitt on Thursday, August 15, 2013, In : Advanced Historian

Well we’re back! That 19 day excursion to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival was beyond marvelous. We got to be real actors for a couple of days, thrown into this crazy life that they have. It was truly eye opening to see how this process unfolded on such a large scale. This privilege we were given, was humbling and a once in a lifetime experience. I personally enjoyed the culture of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. There were no rules to what could happen. Anything was possible through th...

It's 2:10 am. And your new thespian board is hard at work making this year run as smoothly as possible. There have been smores and strawberries and lots of cat loving (like the genuine petting of cats not anything weird.) By the way this is Alessandra. But Maia says eyooo.
Anyway. It's 2:11 and I just want to sleep but I love you all so much that we are still up. I don't know why I am even here right now except to test my coherency.

Why Should I go to Nationals Anyway?

Posted by Shawn Hann on Monday, January 28, 2013, In : CW Rep
Hi Thespians,

It's your Creative Writing Rep, Shawn Cremer, but anyone and everyone should read this! So, let's see... Are you a junior? An I.E. performer with two superiors? An eighth grade thespian? If you answered "no" to any of the above questions, then you don't really have to keep reading (unless you're waiting to hear on the results *hint, Ave. Q, hint*) So, you could go to National Thespian convention. But why? I mean, it's expensive and let's face it; Lincoln, Nebraska isn't everyone...

Avenue Q........ what up with that?

Posted by Shawn Hann on Friday, January 11, 2013, In : Outreach Officer
Ok so here is the thing. Avenue Q is such a weird show. Amazing, but so incredibly weird. It is a show with actors onstage carrying around puppets. Huh? The first time I saw the show I spent countless minutes before questioning and hypothesizing how I was going to watch and enjoy the show. Will I watch the puppetts? the puppeteers? who is really the character? who will be acting? But somehow this wonderful show manages to do it flawlessly. The audience is able to bounce their eyes betw...

We ready for da rest of da year, yo

Posted by Nicki Seefs on Thursday, January 10, 2013,
Hey thespians!
VP here. Last semester was crazy for Thespians, primarily because of state convention. Thank you for being wonderful and representing DSA the right way!

This past weekend, the officers had a day long retreat where we reviewed our goals from the beginning of the year and reminded ourselves of what kinds of leaders we want to be. What we concluded more than anything was that we wanted to have more thespian events in order to unite our troupe! This semester we will have a thespian o...

I really LOVED this workshop and hope there are more like it next year. Hello Thespian members!
I hope you all have been having a wonderful Thanksgiving Break. November has been a crazy month and we, as students, have been in need of a time to rest and spend time with our families.
Today's blog is going to be centered on the Colorado State Student Officers (SSO's).
Over the past two months, the SSO's have been intensely planning the State Thespian Convention, which is in just two weeks! (Crazy, right?!) Currently, we are securing donations for the S...

Hello again thespians it’s your tech rep Kelsi! I love getting the opportunity to go see shows down at DCPA and the Stagecraft department got to go see The Giver!

I thought that the actors portrayed the world wonderfully and tech crew created this utopian society where everything is grey and dull. One thing I loved about going to see the performance was the Q and A after the show and learning how they did the special effects.

So guys there are so many things I want to take the opportunity to talk to. A lot of this is advice that I've begun to accumulate over the past several months.

My first bit of advice is to all you thespians who are Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors. I know college may seem like a long ways away, but I can assure you, it's not. Even as freshmen you need to keep in mind that in three years, or less, you'll be applying to college. I'm not telling you g...

Hey everyone! So guess what's right around the corner?? STATE CONVENTION!! I have been freaking out trying to prepare with my two I.E.'s PLUS my All-State Show audition for The Foreigner. If you have an I.E. for state, make sure it is in good shape. YOU paid to enter it, so why not make it worth while. Also, the officers are workshopping your I.E.'s to give constructive feedback. Now this doesn't mean that you show us an I.E. that is partially memorized and not blocked. Get it as ready as pos...

So You Want to be an SSO?

Posted by Shawn Hann on Tuesday, November 15, 2011,
What is an SSO you may ask? Well, it stands for State Student Officer and essentially it's like being a thespian officer for the entire state of Colorado! Who's eligible? Any current 9-11 graders who are officially inducted as a thespian, that's who. How long are you on the board for? Until you graduate highschool, so once you're in, you're in.

Well, enough of this nonsense, let me talk to you about what being an SSO is actually like. In fact, let me tell you my SSO story. For those of you ...

Hello all, Outreach Jake here. As you probably know, we hosted Thespian Cabaret last Wednesday night. It was, as usual, successful, but it could be even more so. If you didn't sign up or didn't know what to do for Cabaret, audition for the next one. JUST DO IT (like Nike). Do a scene, write a song, whatever floats your boat! WHAAAAAAAAAAAT?

That said, this is actually my (early) blog for the month of September. I know. It's not quite September. That's why I said "early". Just thought I'd remind you of a few things:

The ALL-MAJOR SCENE NIGHT is tomorrow and Friday night. No clue what time. Sure you know by now. Mandatory. Be there. It's good. Mature content? Absolutely.
Thespian Coldstone Fundraiser is a week from today (the 7th) at 5:30 pm at the Stapleton Coldstone. Recommended. Be there.

I know I am. now, even though the lock-in was a while ago, I'm still going to talk about. Did you guys think it was fun? I sure did. I had all kinds of, and made some really awesome friends. Back to school (cool)

Posted by Shawn Hann on Tuesday, August 24, 2010, In : Outreach Officer
Hey Hey Hey it's your outreach officer Mei Mei Mei! Well, welcome back to school you crazy fool! Has it not been the most fun ever? I have to say the lock-in was just a pre-curser to the awesome times this year have in store. BTW- the lock-in, let's chat that up:
5 great things about the lock-in
1. I met sooooo many new theatre majors, and let me just say, they are really great kids!
2. I connected and reconnected with theatre majors I have been going to school with for a year or more, which was...

Secretary Samie Here!

Quick reminder: FIRST MANDATORY ALL-TROUPE THESPIAN MEETING THIS WEDNESDAY!!! BE THERE.

So this school year started off wonderfully for the theatre department with the lock-in. Though it was an exhausting night, with absolutely no sleep, it was a very fun and productive night. I feel like the major has gained a sense of connection that was wonderful to feel as we started off the school year! Besides seeing people lip-sync at four in the morning is just good fun. :)

Taking the Festival Stage

Posted by Austin Allen on Sunday, July 18, 2010, In : Treasurer

Last week I began to talk about the amazing things that one can do at the annual International Thespian Festival. This week I’ll move on to discuss the plethora of opportunities that await each and every Thespian who attends.

Not only is Festival one of the most fun weeks of the year, it is also an great week to see some amazing theatre. Sure, not every production, I.E., or actor is Tony-worthy, but you get a chance to see the wide range of talent from across the country. Even the less tal...

Let the Festival Begin!

Posted by Austin Allen on Friday, July 9, 2010, In : Treasurer

If you are one of the many lucky thespians to have attended state convention, you have no idea what “nationals” is like. In Colorado we are confined to one location (albeit an extensive & large one). In Lincoln, the Festival is spread across the entire campus of University of Nebraska - Lincoln (UNL). Many people, including myself, disparage Lincoln as a tiny little town among the cornfields, which it somewhat is. However, the UNL campus is a diamond in the rough.

Two years ago, when I ...

Inside the Treasury

Posted by Austin Allen on Friday, July 2, 2010, In : Treasurer

With each new Thespian board comes a new style of doing things, and a new tone for the department. I my three years as a Theatre Major I have noted that the biggest changes seem to come in the Treasury department. I have also seen the steady decline of enforcement from the top of each year to the bottom. It seems that most Thespian treasurers have trouble maintaining the guidelines that they set out at the beginning of the year.

As the 2010-2011 Treasurer for Troupe 5869, I will be setting ...

Some Reflections on Nationals

Posted by Samie Johnson on Tuesday, June 29, 2010, In : Secretary
Hello this is Secretary Samie here to blog about the nationals experience!

Now first of all performing Urinetown for an audience of about 2,500 theatre-loving people was amazing. We got great feedback on our show, from the backstage crew to our fellow thespians; there was tons of positive buzz about our show. The most amazing thing about the performance-in my personal opinion-was coming out for curtain call to see the entire audience already on their feet. Talk about some thunderous applause! ...

Wow wow wow Nebraska!

Posted by Shawn Hann on Tuesday, June 29, 2010,
Hey. This is your outreach officer Mei Mei. I just got back along with our whole peetown cast and some more from Nationals in Lincoln, Nebraska! I have to tell you, I didn't actually mind Nebraska so much. I like humidity, it makes my hair super curly and shiny. I did sweat a lot though, but that's what deodorant is for. Lincoln was quiet and peaceful, well, besides all the high school drama geeks who flooded the campus of Lincoln University. We are a pretty loud breed of people. It was great...

Boy, oh Boy

Posted by Tess Westenahver on Tuesday, June 29, 2010, In : Intermediate Historian
Hola! Its Tess :)
Have any of you ever been to Lincoln, Nebraska? Well, I just got back from that rather dull place. For those of you who haven't been there, it's hot, humid, and sticky every minute of the day. Lincoln is a relatively small city with not much going on. It basically revolves around the University of Nebraska, which is a great school. If your wondering why I was there, it was because the national thespian convention is held there annually and I had the honor of going with the s...

Other highlights of the trip include:
SEVERAL amazing DSA IEs
P.S. It's Not What It Looks Like (Now critically acclaimed!)

Hola amigos!!
Vice President Harmon here..
I am so excited for this year guys. Like, an overload of excitement really. :) Myself, and my other fellow officers, met up and discussed our happenings next year as a troupe and department, and as you all know, most of it was about the all of the change. Some of you have been really opposed to these changes because it may seem a tad scary. Your used to your usual teachers and learning environment because that's what your comfortable with. However, I a...

Hey friends! Senior Officer Zach Cantor here. I am your Advanced Historian for the year. Mostly this means documenting the year for use in the banquet video. This blogging thing is great!

So, as stated in every other post, this year is bringing about a lot of change. We, as a board, have heard (and discussed) a lot of fears concerning that change. Like my fellow officers, I'd like to take a moment to address the fear I've heard the most:

This is going to become a musical theatre major.
Since I'...

New Year+ New Teachers+ New room= Excitement

Posted by Shawn Hann on Monday, June 7, 2010, In : Outreach Officer
Hey! This is your outreach officer Mei Mei. If you have already read some of the below posts, you are aware of the changes coming up in the upcoming year. Change is scary, but trust me, trust all of us, it's going to be positive change. The new room (which is TBD) is going to have more space than Moss's. Moss is going to explore and grow in the creative writing department and we are going to explore and grow with our new theatre teacher Mr.Becker. We talked to Mr.Becker and I have to say, he'...

Hello Thespians! This is Shawn Cremer, your Freshman Rep. I wanted to update you guys a bit about next year. As you all know, our department is going through a lot of change. Just to name a few, we have a new teacher, Mr. Becker, we will have a new space to work in, we are getting a TON of new students (31% of next year's major is new), we have a new vice principle, and we are going into the 2010-11 school year with a fresh new start. A lot of these changes are scary to many of our major. Ho...

Step Into the Fear!

Posted by Eli Carpenter on Monday, June 7, 2010, In : President

Perhaps this coming school year should be called the year of CHANGE. We all know its coming. There is a lot of change, and, with reason, a lot of fear to accompany it. Lets list some of the changes we can expect:

-Moss has switched departments.

-Brett Scott has moved to the east cost.

-The schedule is changing so beginning, intermediate, and advanced are separate again. This is will in turn, change the curriculum

-As most people now know, we will not be in Moss’ room next year (Moss ...
