Hola! Its Tess :)
Have any of you ever been to Lincoln, Nebraska? Well, I just got back from that rather dull place. For those of you who haven't been there, it's hot, humid, and sticky every minute of the day. Lincoln is a relatively small city with not much going on. It basically revolves around the University of Nebraska, which is a great school. If your wondering why I was there, it was because the national thespian convention is held there annually and I had the honor of going with the school and to help with Urinetown.
So, to tell you a little bit about how nationals work I'll share with you a basic schedule of the day.
7:30-9:45 First workshop session (optional)
8:30-9:30 Breakfast
10:00-12 Morning show
12:30-2:00 Lunch
2:00-5:45 Workshops
6:00-7:30 Dinner
8:00 Evening show
10:30-12:30 Dance
So as you can see there was plenty to do. The shows that we saw while we were there were How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Working, A Piece of my Heart, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Your a Good Man Charlie Brown, and Pippin. There were other main stage shows that we did not get to because we were performing at the time.
For those of you who were wondering how we got to Lincoln, Nebraska it was by bus. A big Greyhound bus. The ride took about seven and a half hours. As you can imagine, it was crazy. Almost every seat was taken and as you can imagine, sleeping became an art on the bus. In order to accomplish this task you had to either have two seats or be able to sleep sitting straight up. It's not as easy as you may think. One tip for traveling with a big group or just traveling in general is to have head phones, preferably some sort of noise canceling kind. This is for when you are trying to sleep but the people around are talking in outside voices the whole bus ride. The next tip is to have food, and many activities. Having these two things will help when you get bored and have nothing to do.
I hope this entry satisfied you curiosity towards the thespian nationals in Lincoln, Nebraska. Thanks for reading!
