Hey guys!
Last time I wrote I was writing to clarify about the details and procedures of our fundraiser for the 2012-2013 school year. But, this time I get to write to you about my Lincoln experience. This was my second time at National Thespian Convention; However, each time I have been it is a totally different experience. Both times have been super fun!
The trip started on June 25th when we departed from the DSA parking lot at 4 am. No no you did not read that wrong. The 30 or so people that went on this trip did leave the parking lot at 4 in the morning. As everyone groggyly found their seat on the bus, we left for Lincoln! That began our 8 hour drive to ThesCon. The bus ride is suprisingly a fun trip filled with sleeping, friends and lots of Tihun Pixar favoites! On our trip we watched my personal favorites, Nemo and Monsters Inc. (Only the best) We also had a great time having 4 students not from DSA that came with us on the trip. Megan, Libby, Kyla, and Spencer fearlessly joined the DSA clan for a whole week. Spencer is also the ITO (International Thespian Officer) for Region 1 that Colorado is part of.
The next few days were so fun but can I say extremley tiring. First off, every single person at the convention sees 2 mainstage shows. These shows are usually really great but with little sleep it is tempting to want to use the shows as a nap time. But as we know that is bad theatre manners, and we would never do that. We see tons on cool shows lke Big River, Aida, and Tarzan! During the week you also have sessions that you are allowed to chose what you would like to do. This is a time to watch ies, one acts, visit colleges or of course go to workshops. I personally spent most of my week visiting colleges and waching one acts. This was really benificial to me because even though I did not audition for colleges this year it was good for me to start early and talk to some colleges. I also just loved watching the one acts because seein new shows is always a good thing for an actor to do. Every night there is also a dance, which is filled with about 1 thousand dancing thespians............. you can decide how you feel about that.
We do all of these things on little to no sleep. Rooming with people that you usually get along with very well means that you want to hang out and talk instead of sleeping. This may seem like a good idea at night, but in the morning it feels a lot different. We also walk a lot! and when I say a lot, I mean a lot! You walk between the dorm and the Lied Center (the performing arts center) so much everyday. This trip is about 1 mile, and an SSO did the math and apparently we walk about 50 miles on this trip. So even though the food might not always be the healthiest (or at least the most appealing options aren't) you get a fair amount of exercise.
So there you go..............that was my week in Lincoln!
